Abstract
808,526. Separating solid materials. BLAW-KNOX CO. July 17, 1956 [Aug. 24, 1955], No. 22104/56. Class 117 Gravel is fed in a single layer over the edge of an electrically vibrated feeder 1 at the rate of about 1 ft./sec. and drops about 7¢ to 8 feet on to an inclined rigid plate 2 and rebounds into one of two compartments 5 or 6 depending on its hardness &c. The plate is inclined at about 22¢ ins. to the horizontal and the distance d of the top of the wall 4 from the lime of impact is small. The gravel is preferably wet so that the softer and more absorbent stones may be more effectively separated. Graphical data is given relating the proportion of hard and soft stones received in the compartment 5 with the horizontal spacing of the wall 4 from the impact line, and showing also the effectiveness of the separation with the drop height. U.S.A. Specifications 873,326 and 2,260,095 are referred to.
