[Class 74 (ii)] The wrap horn of a superposed cylinder independent needle machine is raised to an inoperative position and lowered to an operative position by mechanism moving the wrap head to its inoperative and operative position. The movement of the wrap horn is such that it is moved into its operative position before the wrap head reaches its operative position and is moved from its operative position only after the wrap head has been moved from its operative position. As described, the wrap head spindle is mounted to be moved to an inoperative position, substantially concentrically with the needle cylinders, and to an operative position, eccentrically of the needle cylinders, by a plate 18 as is described in Specification 613,838. The plate 18 carries an extension 21 on which is mounted a roller 22 which supports the side of plate 18 by running on a track 23. A pin 27, projecting from the extension 21, is adapted to engage one end 16 of a pivoted lever 14 bearing with its other end against the underside of a plate 7 that is attached to a plate 6 connected to the spindle 5 supporting the wrap horn 4. Plate 7 is mounted on top of a shaft 8 which is slidable in a sleeve 9 and is urged towards its lowermost position by a spring 10. Consequently, upon movement of the plate 18 to move the wrap spindle to its operative position eccentrically of the needle cylinders, the pin 27 moves away from the lever 14 to permit the spring 10 to lower the wrap horn, the wrap horn being in position before the wrap spindle reaches its operative position. Similarly, when the wrap spindle is taken out of its operative position, the wrap horn will remain in position until the pin 27 engages the lever 14, whereupon the wrap horn is raised to its inoperative position.
