Abstract

625,127. Electricity supply. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., and OLLERENSHAW, C. Sept. 6, 1946, No. 26830. [Class 38 (iv)] Substituting sources in service.-The supply of current to thermionic apparatus is maintained, when an A.C. source fails, by connecting a vibrator converting unit to supply the load from a stand-by battery through a rectifier. Terminals 10, 11, supplying high and/or lowtension current to one or more thermionic valves are normally connected through a rectifier 12 and contacts A2, A3 of a relay or alarm device to A.C. supply terminals 13, 14. On cessation, or sufficient drop in voltage, of the A.C. supply the relay A releases and connects a trickle-charged battery 15 through contact A1 to a vibrator 16 which in the released position of contacts A2, A3, supplies the rectifier 12. In an alternative arrangement the vibrator is connected permanently through a separate rectifier to the terminals 10, 11. To increase the speed of change-over the actuating coil 20 of the vibrator may receive a starting surge by being connected in series with a metal filament lamp or other device 19 having a low resistance which increases later, or by using a vibrator with a frequency higher than (say twice) that of the supply mains, or by both means. The relay actuating circuit may be as described in Specification 625,128, [Group XXXVII].
