Abstract
620,749. Switching systems. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., and GARTHWAITE, F. N. Aug. 24,1945, No. 21774. [Class 38 (iv)] [Also in Group XL (c)] In a radio apparatus an electromagneticallyoperated switch connects the apparatus to the mains, and the coil of the switch is used for smoothing the current supplied to the apparatus. As shown, the rotary switch f is connected to the hour-hand of a clock and the rotary switch g is similarly connected with the minutehand, the contacts being adjustable so that the switches will close at any predetermined time. By this means the coil e of the electromagnetic switch may be connected across the mains terminals a and b to cause the plunger m to be raised against the action of the tension spring -w, disconnecting coil e and connecting the primary n of the transformer across the mains a, b. The plunger m is locked in its upward position by a common latch-bar o and at the same time the plunger l is forced downwards by the compression spring v and locked. This connects the coil e in series with the rectifier s and load r, and with the condensers u and t forms the smoothing arrangement, the switching being arranged to ensure that the secondary circuit is not broken during the operation. The push-buttons labelled " Time," " On," and " Off," enable the apparatus to be switched on manually with or without the clock switch in action.
