Abstract
625,050. Connectors for grease guns &c. SCOVELL, E. H. Sept. 6, 1946, No. 26890. Convention date, Sept. 8, 1945. [Class 99(i)] A connector for coupling pressure lines to nipples, e.g. for pressure greasing, comprises a body member 1, a socket 2 rigid therewith, a cage 3 axially movable in the socket, rollable locking-members such as balls 5 in the cage, a track or groove 8 in the socket 1 to engage the balls, and a device such as a spring 19 for pressing the cage forward to position the balls in the groove, the cage projecting from the end of the socket to engage on a nipple 4 to move the cage back in the socket when the latter is forced out of axial alignment with the nipple, whereby the nipple is released. On entering the nipple in the socket, the cage is first pushed back until the balls pass over the end of the nipple and then returns to the locking position shown. In a modification, Fig. 5 (not shown), the cage is pushed back by a shoulder on a sealing piston 14 pressed outwardly by a spring 17.
