Abstract
624,219. Centrifugal separators. INTERNATIONAL HARVESTER CO. OF GREAT BRITAIN, Ltd. June 16, 1947, No. 15780. Convention date, June 24, 1946. [Class 23] 'In a centrifugal separator, ports for distributing or discharging washing fluid are opened and closed by valve-means angularly movable about the axis of the separator by inertia effects resultant from a change of separator velocity. A disc pack cream separator has a distributer tube 18 with ports 20, 21 surrounded by a sleeve 24 with ports 25 and a conical member 26 having projections 27. During separation the sleeve closes the ports 20, but during washing the ports 20, 25 are aligned to distribute the washing fluid, and the ends of the projections partially close the ports 21. A conical disc 29 secured to the sleeve is provided with valve parts 30 which cover ports 17 during separation. During washing the disc moves to open the ports to discharge the washing fluid. The disc pack is connected to the sleeve by ribs 35 engaging grooves in the pack, and rotation of the pack and sleeve with respect to the casing is limited by projections 27 engaging driving lugs 23 on the casing. The grooves also serve to provide a channel to the cream opening 15.
