Abstract

624,171. Track brakes for vehicles. LARSEN, H. B. Dec. 28, 1945, No. 35121. [Class 103 (i)] [Also in Group XXXV] To permit of ready adjustment of the resiliently suspended brake block of an electromagnetic track brake for vehicles to transverse inclination of the track rail, so that the block may make full contact with the rail, the block is arranged to turn about a vertically - guided pivot, the axis of which passes below the centre of gravity of the block. As shown, the brake block 5, which includes a magnetizing winding and trackengaging pole-pieces 7 is suspended from the vehicle frame 3 by a spring 11 at each end, attached by a rod 21 to a stud 12 on a bracket 8 of non-magnetic material attached to the end of the block. The block can turn about a pivot 14 at each end, the axis of which is longitudinal and below the centre of gravity of the block and which extends into a socket in the bracket 8 from a member 15 vertically slidable in a guide 16 on an arm 17 extending from the vehicle frame. The springs 11 may be attached to the pivots 14. Pivotal movement of the block about the pivots 14 may be restrained by inclined auxiliary springs extending from the bracket 8 to the rod 12.
