Abstract

624,164. Percussive drills. SANDVIKENS JERNVERKS AKTIEBOLAG. July 8, 1947, No. 18049. Convention date, Oct. 10, 1945. [Class 124] [Also in Group XXII] In a percussive drill having one or more sintered carbide alloy inserts brazed into a transverse groove in the head, the thickness of brazing metal between the sides of the groove and the insert is greater than that between the bottom of the groove and the insert. The insert may be spaced by a metallic spacer equally from the sides not less than .004 in., preferably .008 in. to .03 in., and from the bottom of the groove not more than .004 in. The brazing metal may be a strip longer than the groove and placed beforehand in the groove. A flux may be used and heating may be by high frequency electric currents. The insert may be pressed into the groove and the pressure maintained until the brazing metal has set.
