Abstract
623,641. Electric resistances. LEVERS, J. F., and PATCHETT, R. V. June 3, 1946, No. 16808. [Class 37] [Also in Group IX] An electrical resistance consists of a ribbon woven from a warp of insulating yarn and a weft of wire, the ribbon being in sections divided by portions in which the weft is insulating yarn, but the wire is continuous through the sections. As shown in Fig. 1, the warp 2 is woven with a weft 3 of wire, and each section 4 is divided by three pairs of picks of insulating yarn 5, so that by cutting down the centre pick the sections can be divided. Preferably the yarn 5 is of a distinctive colour. In a modification, a stouter wire 7 is also woven in, as shown, in Fig. 2, so that the ends of each section can be soldered to it and it can be cut to provide connecting leads. The ribbon may be used as a strain gauge or may be rolled to form a multi-layer resistance ; it is preferably coated with insulating material. Specification 590,290 is referred to.
