Abstract

623,546. Injection moulding apparatus. TRIGGS, W. W. (Improved Paper Machinery Corporation). Nov. 9, 1945, No. 29907. [Class 87 (ii)] An apparatus includes, in combination, a plurality of intersecurable units mutually adapted for installation. and assembly in different selectable operative relations. These units include (a) a unit for feeding, conditioning and injecting, (b) a base or frame, unit that supports (a) and houses an actuating and control system for the apparatus, (c) a unit or units for clamping the die or dies in position, and (d) a frame unit or units for supporting (c). Fig. 2 shows an apparatus comprising an injection unit A supported on a base or frame unit C, and a die-clamping unit B supported on a frame D. The injection unit has feet 54 which are secured as by bolts to seatings 52 on the base C. A slide block 56 secured to the injection cylinder 20 is slidably received in a guide plate 52a. The clamping unit is supported at one end on the base C in expansion bearing means 60 on a boss 63 on the base C, and at the other end on the frame D by detachable anchor means 70. The die-holder 31 has a slight nozzle-disengaging movement that is limited by nuts 32a and a spring-pressed retractable plunger 97, the plunger abutting a projection 96 on the die-holder. Fig. 3 shows the clamping unit B arranged vertically and anchored to the base C by a bracket 73 fixed to the boss 63, a shorter frame D<SP>1</SP> being used. Fig. 1 shows the arrangement of Fig. 2 modified in that the injection unit is raised on an intermediate table 50 to allow offset injection at the upper end of long mould parts 36a, 37a.
