Abstract

622,907. Cooling systems for electric induction apparatus. BRITISH THOMSONHOUSTON CO., Ltd. Feb. 14, 1945, No. 3666. Convention date, Feb. 15, 1944. [Class 64(iii)] In electrical induction apparatus, e.g. transformers, having windings with cooling ducts within an enclosed casing filled with a dielectric fluid, e.g. oil, two fluid paths for circulation of the fluid are provided, one internal to the casing and one external, the latter being provided with cooling means, e.g. a heat exchanger for the fluid, the rate of flow through the paths being different and the internal circuit having a parallel return path accommodating the excess fluid due to the difference in rates of flow. An induction coil has windings 12, 13 surrounding winding legs 10, 11 and is provided with ducts 14, 15 for circulation of the oil in the container 20. An external path for the oil is provided through a cooler 23 and fan 26 while an internal path is provided by cylinders 16, 17 supported on a partition 18 closed at one end but open at the other to house a fan 30 which circulates the oil upwardly through apertures in the partition and then through the ducts 15. In a modification, the partition 18 extends horizontally right across the bottom of the chamber 20 and the fan is placed in an aperture formed therein.
