Abstract

614,961. Temperature indicating systems. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. July 15, 1946, No. 21155. Convention date, July 16, 1945. [Class 40 (i)] To indicate the average temperature of the windings of an oil-immersed piece of electrical apparatus, two temperatureresponsive devices are situated one at the top of the tank and one at the bottom and the average of the responses is indicated on a suitable instrument. As shown, two heater coils containing temperature-responsive devices A and B, which may be thermocouples or temperaturesensitive resistances are mounted, one in the oil outlet at the top of the tank of a transformer and one in the inlet at the bottom. These heater coils are supplied from the secondary of a current transformer 7, the primary of which is in series with the high voltage winding of the transformer. The thermal characteristics of these heating coils are similar to those of the windings. Each temperature-responsive device is dimensioned so as to give a response proportional to half the temperature at that point so that instrument 8 indicates the average temperature directly.
