As will be seenin the various figures in the drawing the enclosing housing or casing for the core and coils includes a pair of side members 24 of similar construction which may be seen in Figs. 1 and 3, and a pair of side members 23 of similar shape which may be seen in the side views in Figs. land 4. It is to be understood that these side members may have any suitable size in relation to each other, depending upon the dimensions of the core and coil structure. 'li'he side members 24 and are provided with inwardly extending portions 23 and 21, respectively, at the end thereof adjacent the mounting core clamps i2 and 20. The inwardly extending portions 23 of the side portions 24 span between the ends of the core clamps II and 26 and are attached thereto by means of bolts 23. A plurality of lifting eyes 2! are also attached to the core clamp portions 22 and 23 through the bolts 22. It is to be understood that any other suitable lifting means attached to or including the upper core clamps may be provided. The inwardly extending portions 21 of the other side portions 26 have ends adjacent the ends of the inwardly extending portions 26 and the side portions 24 and 26 are in turn attached together by removable means, such as bolts 30. With this construction, therefore, the enclosing housing is supported by the core through the upper core clamps l3 and 20. Thus, the enclosing casing side portions 24 and 23 support nothing but their own weight and so may be formed in any suitable manner, such as being pressed out of relatively thin metal stock.
In order to provide an improved enclosing housing construction which will facilitate the circulation of air over the core and coils and through the ducts ll of the coils, the side portions 24 and are provided with inwardly tapering or inwardly extending portions 33 and 34, respectively. The inwardly tapered portions 33 and 34 have edges 35 and 36, respectively, which terminate adjacent inner edges 31 of the lower core clamps I 4 and I5. Suitable clips 33 may be provided, if desired, to hold the bottoms of the side plates in position. By terminating the edges of the inwardly tapering portions adjacent the core clamps a relatively drip-proof construction is provided. Furthermore to allow for circulation of air, the inwardly tapered portions 33 and 34 are provided with suitable openings, such as louvers or passagewayslfl so that even though a plurality of transformers are connected in sideby-side relationship, as is illustrated in Fig. 3, passageways 4i will be provided due to the inwardly tapering portions, through which air may pass before entering the louvers 40. Louvers or passageways 42 are placed at the top of the enclosing casing structure so as to allow free circulation of air through the transformer strucl The top portion of the casing which has louvers 42 includes a cover portion 43 having two pairs of similar side members 44 and 45, the side members 44 being shown in Figs. 1 and 3 and the side members "being shown in Figs. 2 and 4. The side members 44 are inwardly tapered or inwardlyextending so that the ducts 42 will be provided in a tapered portion so as to prevent a dead air space from being formed inside the cover construction.
In order to allow free access to the transformer construction inside the cover 43, particularly when a plurality of transformers are connected together and placed side-by-side as illustrated in Fig. 3, the side portions 44 are made integral with a top portion 46 forming a hood which is removable separately from the side portions 4|. Thus, the side portions 44 and the top 46 provide a hood with an inwardly extending bead 41 which overlies the edges of the side portions 43 so as to provide a relatively drip-proof construction. The hood is attached to the side portions 46 by any suitable means such as bolt members 43. The side portions 46 are attached to the inwardly extending portions 21 of the side plates 23 through bolt members Ill. It may also be seen in Fig. 1 that the side portions are spaced inwardly from the bead portion 41 so as to leave a space 5| at the top through which air may circulate, and the overhanging bead 41 will minimize the possibility of water leaking through the passageway 5| The inwardly extending portions 26 and 21 of the side members 24 and 26 are also provided with angularly or upwardly extending lips 62 and, respectively, so as to contribute to the dripeprooi construction.
In order to provide an improved arrangement for electrically connecting each transformer unit to line and load cables the side portions 46 are provided with suitable apertures to accommodate a plurality of load cables 31 and line cables 58. As will be seen in Fig.4 the side portions 45 of the transformer which is adjacent another unit are provided with insulating plates 33 with suitable openings 58 for the cables. The cables may be supported inside the transformer housing by cable brackets 68 and cable clamps members 60, the bracket member 30 being supported by the cable support 59 which is in turn supported by the upper core clamps l3 and 20. Leads 8i from the primary winding may be removably connected to the cables 63 and leads 62 may be removably connected to cables 31 through a plurality of connectors 63.

Modifications of the particular arrangement which I have disclosed embodying my invention will occur to those skilled in the art, so that I do not desire my invention tobe limited to the particular arrangement set forth and I intend in the appended claims to cover all modifications which do not depart from invention.
What I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States is:
1. In an electric apparatus, a core having a plurality of laminations, means for clamping said laminations together, an enclosing casing for said core including a plurality of side members, re-
movable means for attaching said side members together, said side members having inwardly tapering portions at one end, and a cover cooperating with said side members enclosing the other end, said tapering portions and said cover having passageways to permit the free circulation of air over said core and coils .inside said enclosing casing, said core clamp means having portions projecting outside said enclosing casing for providing feet for supporting said apparatus on a base.
2. In an electric apparatus, a core having a plurality of laminations, means for clamping said laminations together, an enclosing casing for said core including a plurality of side members,

In an electric apparatus, a core, a coil inductively related to said core, an enclosing casing for said core and coil including a plurality of side members, removable means for' attaching said side members together, said side members having inwardly tapering portions at one end, a cover cooperating with the other end of said side portions having oppositely disposed members and inwardly tapered portions, apertures in said oppositely disposed cover members for accomrnc dating line and load cables, leads connected with said coil, removable connection means for connecting the leads to the cables, means for attaching said oppositely disposed cover members to the adjacent edges of said side members, and means for removably attaching said cover portions to said oppositely disposed members so that said cover portions may be removed to expose said connection means without disturbing the cables, said side members and said tapered cover members having passageways to permit free circulation of air through apparatus is adjacent a similar electric apparatus.
6. In an electric apparatus, a core having a plurality of laminations, core clamp means at opposite ends of said core for clamping said laminations together, an enclosing casing for said core, removable means for attaching said enclosing casing to said core clamp at one end, lifting eyes outside said enclosing casing, means for attaching said eyes to said last-mentionedcore clamp, said opposite core clamp having means projecting beyond said casing to provide supporting feet for said apparatus.

In an electric apparatus, a core having a plurality of laminations, a pair of angle bars extending across the sides of said laminations at its top and bottom, means for attaching said bars to said laminations to provide core clamps, an enclosing casing for said core including a plurality of side members, removable means for attaching said side members together and to said upper core clamp, lifting eyes outside said enclosing casing, and means for attaching said eyes to said upper core clamps, portions of said lower angle bars extending beyond said casing to provide supporting feet for said apparatus.

In an electric apparatus having a coil, an enclosing housing including a plurality of sidemembers, a cover cooperating with said side members and having a plurality of side portions, apertures in two opposite side portions of said cover for accommodating electric conductors, means for attaching said opposite side portions to adjacent side members, means under said covsaid casing when said said enclosing casing, means including said core clamping means to: connecting said lifting meanstosaidcoresothatsaidsnclosingcasing means need carry only about its own weight and not that 0! the whole apparatus during lifting. and means including said core clamp means adiacent the lower end 0! said core for mpporting said apparatus on a base, said casing means having an inwardly extending portion adjacent one end with passageways therein so as to permit the relatively i'ree circulation of air over said core inside said enclosing casing.
