Abstract

622,817. Aerials. THORNTON, A. A., (Philco Radio & Television Corporation). March 16, 1945, No. 6714. [Class 40 (vii)] An aerial comprises a conductor, e.g. copper wire, enclosed in insulating material, the whole being arranged to form a flexible rod, and having a laterally - extending terminal which also forms a support for the rod. In one form, Figs. 1, 2, a tapering rod is formed of flexible wooden strips 4, 5 of semi-circular cross-section placed together with a complemental groove accommodating a wire 2. The parts are held together at the upper end by a retaining ball 6 of insulating material, e.g. plastic or wood, and at the bottom by a retaining cap 7. The rod may be covered with fabric 8 or other suitable material. A terminal 3 comprises a bolt 11, Fig. 5, extending into the rod and terminating in a sleeve 12 through which the wire 2 extends. For securing the aerial to a surface 13, e.g. a vehicle body, the bolt 11 is passed through an insulated spacing member 14 and through a hole in the surface 13, a washer 15 of insulating material being arranged on the inside and the whole being clamped by a nut. In another form, Figs. 3, 4 (not shown), the rod is moulded of insulating material, e.g. plastic, within which the wire 10 is completely embedded.
