Abstract
622,619. Diving. COUSTEAU, J. Y. April 1, 1947, Nos. 8860 and 8861. Convention dates, April 2, 1946, and March 19, 1947. [Class 68 (ii)] A diving-apparatus comprises a breathing apparatus, of which the circuit is that described in Specification 615,415, [Group VI], and a non-rigid water-tight suit in which the gas pressure is always equal to or slightly less than the water pressure existing at the highest point of the inflatable part of the suit. An outlet valve 10a is provided in the head portion 2 and other outlet valves 10 are provided at the extremities of the suit and on the back and front. A diaphragm pressure regulator 11 is provided open on one side to the water pressure and on the other communicating with the interior of the suit and with a source of pressure gas which may be carried by the diver or may be pumped down from above. This regulator is placed at substantially the same distance from the farthermost valves and allows air to pass into the suit when the difference between the water pressure and that inside the suit becomes slightly greater than the pressure of a water column of height equal to the distance between the diaphragm and the farthermost valve. Ballasting capacities may be provided at 30. The nose, Fig. 4, may be kept separate by a flexible skirt 16. The suit is in two parts, upper and lower, the adjoining edges being fitted over a ring 4 formed of two interpivoted parts and having an annular groove to receive a cord 8.
