Abstract

622,608. Rotary engines; turbines. SELLARS, A. F. T. April 1, 1947, No. 8818 [Classes 110(ii) and 110(iii)] An internal-combustion engine of the sliding-rocking vane type has a casing 1, a working-chamber liner 21, and an exhaust-driven turbine wheel 26 which forces air from the atmosphere entering a passage 29 to an inlet port 23 of the engine. The blades 28 of the wheel 26 are impinged upon by exhaust gases from a port 22 and guides 27, and impinge on the air entering the passage 29 to drive it through passages 30, 31. Fuel is supplied through a pipe 24 and fired at a point 25. Ports 39, of the rotor circumference, are cut away. A lubricating-oil pump 32, of the gear type, is driven from the engine shaft 7 by gears 33, 34 the oil passing through a cylinder 35. Liquid fuel is supplied from a pipe 37 to the engine by means of a double-acting piston 36. The piston rod is extended to a piston in the cylinder 35. The vanes 5 are supported by rings 13 on a stationary shaft 11. Spaces 38 act as a water jacket for cooling purposes.
