Abstract

622,584. Coffee percolators. JAMES, R., and SUMERLING & CO.. Ltd. March 29, 1947, No. 8570. [Class 129] In a coffee-making machine of the type comprising a lower vessel in which the water is boiled and an upper vessel in which the ground coffee is placed above a strainer, a dip tube passing from the bottom of the upper vessel into the lower vessel and below the level of the water therein so that the boiling water passes up the dip tube and into the upper vessel through the strainer, the dip tube is in fluid connection with an overflow tube which extends from a point below the strainer in the upper vessel to a point below the normal level to which the water rises in the upper vessel. The overflow tube 5 is carried by a sleeve 5a which is screwed on to a nipple 6 and also holds the strainer 3 in place. The nipple 6 is attached to the bottom of the upper vessel 2 by a threaded flange 7 which is apertured to permit the upward flow of water from the dip tube 4 to the strainer 3. Apertures 19 provide an alternative outlet for the water if the strainer becomes blocked. The upper vessel 2 is secured to the lower vessel 1 by a threaded coupling ring 16.
