Abstract

622,557. Electromagnets. MILNE & LONGBOTTOM, Ltd., BUTTERWORTH, E. M., and AVERY, E. March 26, 1947, No. 8220. [Class 35] [Also in Group XXXVTI] The armature 3 of an A.C. magnet 1 is held closed by an auxiliary magnet 13, the armature of which is linked to the armature 3. In the form shown, both main and auxiliary magnets 1, 13 are first energized and the armature 9, in moving to the position shown about its pivot 10, carries with it an arm 12 which breaks at 15, 16 the circuit to the magnet 1. In this position the line joining the ends 6, 8 of the link 7 between the two armatures, passes through or slightly above the axis 10 so that the magnet 13 has to exert little force to hold the armature 3 closed. In a modification the link 7 is straight and of adjustable length.
