Abstract
Asphaltic bituminous compositions are prepared by subjecting mixtures of asphaltic oils or extracts containing aromatic and/or naphthenic constituents obtained by the extraction of asphaltic oils with selective solvents and fatty oils at elevated temperatures to a treatment with O2 or a gas containing free O2. As fatty oils both vegetable and animal oils may be used, e.g. linseed oil, rapeseed, poppyseed, china wood and train. Fillers such as cement, lime, micro asbestos, flue ash and talcum may be added before, during or after the preparation of the compositions. In one example air was blown through a mixture of 25 parts by weight of raw linseed oil and 75 parts by weight of asphaltic fuel oil while stirring at 250 DEG C. 180 litres of air per Kg. of mixture was used. A homogenous rubber-like product with a MPt. greater than 180 DEG C was obtained.
