Abstract
Factice is made by reacting sulphur with unsaturated raw or modified animal or vegetable oils or fats mixed with tar oil (or a fraction or extract thereof) obtained by the low-temperature carbonization of naturally occuring carbonaceous matter and having a boiling range of from 200 DEG -400 DEG C.ALSO:Factice is made by reacting sulphur with a mixture of unsaturated raw or modified animal or vegetable oils or fats together with tar oil obtained by the low temperature carbonization of naturally occurring carbonaceous matter and having a boiling range of from 200 DEG -400 DEG C2 or fractions or extracts thereof. The tar oil may be used as such, or the fraction or extract may be one from which the phenolic constituents have been wholly removed, or the phenolic constituents themselves or a part thereof may be used. Up to 70 per cent. of the tar oil may be used. In examples, the factices are compounded into conventional rubber mixes.
