[Class 107] [Also in Group XXIII] A road surface levelling machine comprises a rotary base 1 which supports a plurality of radially directed sweeps 2 so mounted that the angle of inclination of each sweep to the working surface may be varied. A motor 5 mounted on a gear housing 4 drives the shaft 11 of the base through a belt-driven pulley 8 and worm gearing 15, 16, rotation of the gear casing being prevented by a handle 9 on which the engine controls 10 are mounted. The shaft 18 of each sweep is supported in bearings 17, 171 formed in the rotary base and this shaft is bifurcated at 19 to enable two surface plates 20 to be secured thereto. The outer ends of the plates 20 are spaced apart by a U-shaped plate 22 which has provided therein a keyhole slot 23 to receive a stud 24 secured to a guard-ring 3. The sweeps may be simultaneously tilted with respect to the working surface by rock arms 27 secured to each shaft 18 co-operating with a spider 25 that is caused to rotate about the shaft 11 by a bell-crank lever 29 and a screwed rod 28. The sweeps 2 may be completely rotated to present a fresh plate to the working surface.
