Abstract

819,621. Screeding machines. BYGGMEKANISERING A. B. Nov. 5, 1957 [Nov. 10, 1956], No. 34421/57. Class 107 The screed of a machine for laying a smooth surface, for example of concrete, is vibrated longitudinally but not vertically by rotating eccentric masses, so arranged in two groups that the forces produced by each of them act in the same direction longitudinally but in opposition in a vertical direction at right angles to the length of the screed. As shown, the tool 1 is supported by a flexible mounting 11 on the carriage 5 fitted with handles 4. :and the longitudinal vibrations are produced by rotating eccentrically placed masses 19 and 20 fixed to gear wheels 14 by shafts 13 carried by a mounting 2 attached to the tool 1, the centre shaft 13 and gear 14 being driven by electric motor 3 rotating outer gears 14 which are freely mounted. The sum of the masses of eccentrics 20 equals that of eccentric 19 so that in the position shown by full lines in Fig. 3, the forces produced by rotation of the masses are equal and opposite producing no resultant force whilst in the position shown in broken lines a resultant force to the left is produced; a corresponding force to the right is produced 180 degrees later in the rotation of shafts 13. If desired, the screed can be arranged to operate with longitudinal and vertical vibrations and by tilting the shafts 13 forwards a resultant force can be obtained which will cause the screed to move forwards over the surface to be treated.
