Abstract
621,993. Aerial coupling arrangements; receiving systems. WESTINGHOUSE ELECTRIC INTERNATIONAL CO. March 3,1947, No. 5979. Convention date, Sept. 22, 1943. [Class 40 (v)] [Also in Group XL (b)] In coupling an input line 2 from an aerial to a valve 8, a resonator 3 is used comprising a core 4 connected at one end to a conducting sheath and at its other end through a condenser 6 to the sheath and this end is connected to the valve grid 12 through a condenser 13. The sheath is approximately an integral number of quarter wavelengths long of the frequency to be received, with a resonant frequency partly dependent on the condensers 13, 6, and variable by the condenser 6. The condenser 13 has a value approximately equal to the grid-cathode capacity 28 of the valve 8 and together with the input tapping 7 is variable for impedance matching. The frequency input may be heterodyned by cathode-injected oscillations from a generator 16 with frequency controlled by coupled quarter-wave rods 22, 21, and cathode output' circuit comprising a variably tappedconducting core 26 in a conducting sheath 27 connected to the core at one end and to ground, but not resonant to the generator frequency. The mixed oscillations are derived from the anode 9 of the valve 8. Loose coupling of the generator with the mixer and of the aerial with the mixer is obtained.
