[Class 78 (iii)] [Also in Group XXXI] An automatic lifting and supporting device for motor cycles, comprises two sleeves 1 constituting together with a connecting member 1<SP>1</SP> a frame of the lifting device fixable on the motor cycle frame by means of screws passing through lugs 20, two pistons 2 slidable within the sleeves 1 against the action of springs 22 the ends of the pistons protruding from the sleeves to form supporting feet 4 of the lifting device, and a pedal 7 rotation of which lowers the pistons to raise the motor cycle, means also being provided for urging the pistons towards their collapsed position. Each piston is provided with a toothed rack 5 meshing with a gear 3 keyed on a coupling shaft 8. which is provided with a ratchet coupling 9. The coupling comprises two ratchet toothed jaw sleeves 9 meshing together to transmit movement in one direction only and brought in contact by a spring 10. The pedal 7 is connected to the coupling 9 and is automatically returned to its initial position by a spring 11. One of the pistons is provided with a lateral rack 6 engaged by a pawl 18 urged by a spring 17 so as to lock the piston at any desired height. A resetting mechanism comprises a lever 12 which can be pushed sideways by the foot or hand causing a rod 13 to open the coupling 9 and an eyelet 14 to pull out a knob 15 which releases the locking pawl 18 from the rack 6 and allows the piston 2 to slide back into the upper position.
