[Class 141] Pants of laterally stretchable material, e.g. knitted fabric, comprise a body portion covering the back and sides of the wearer and a pair of overlapping front pieces providing a fly opening, each piece having an integral extension forming the crotch of the garment and extending upwardly into a cut provided in the back of the garment to provide extra fullness. As shown in Fig. 1, the body portion 11 is connected to a triangular insert 14 and the two superimposed front pieces 12, 13 having free edges 42. Reinforcing members 16, 17 extend from the crotch to the waist, overlying the seams connecting front pieces 12, 13 and insert 14 to the body portion, which members are preferably in the form of non-extensible tapes and give support to the front of the garment. The insert 14 may be integral with the body portion 11 or with one of the front pieces. These latter have bulbous extensions at their lower ends which fit into a vertical slit, extending upwardly from a cut-out part between the leg extensions 18, 19 in the portion 11, to form a seat portion 38. When the invention is applied to legless pants the slit may be replaced by a V-shaped or oval cutout. In a modification, the insert 14 may be omitted, the front pieces 12, 13 continuing up to the waistline and the members 16, 17 extending from the waistline to the crotch without crossing. The invention is also applicable to the lower parts of union suits.
