9 Claims. (01. 2-224) This invention relates to undergarments for women.
One object of the invention is a novel and improved undergarment for women which may be used as a slip or petticoat.
A further object of the invention is a novel and improved undergarment for women of the above indicated character which may be used as panties.
A further object of the invention is a novel and improved undergarment which functions both as a petticoat and panties and is characterized by the comfort to the wearer whether sitting, standing or walking. A further object is such an undergarment which is characterized by the simplicity of its design and the economy with which it may be made. a i
More specifically my inventionyresides in an ,undergarment of the. aboveindicated character whose upper part consists of a special yoke construction and design combined witha lower part correlated and cooperatively functioning therewith to produce aform-fitting and otherwise highly useful and desirable combined undergarment.
For a better understanding of the invention reference may be had to the accompanying drawing forming a part of this application, wherein 3 Fig, 1 is a perspective view of a garment em bodying the invention;
Fig. 2 is a front view thereof; and
Fig. 3 is a back view thereof.
Referring 'to the drawing, I have illustrated my invention as embodied in anundergarment for women comprising an upper part land a dependingpart 2. The depending part2 is provided with acrotch 3 disposed at approximately halfway down the depending or flaring .part 2, and thereby providing a pair of abbreviated shorts or leg parts 4 at the extremebottom. Theupper part consists of a special yoke the upper edge 5 of which fits on the waistline of the wearer. The yoke forms the upper half of the garment above the crotch 3, its lower edges in the front and back being indicated at 6 and 1 respectively.
In the particular embodiment;
shown the depth of the yoke at the front and back is slightly more than'half the distance The lower border parts 6 and l of the yoke are of shorter length than the width of the waistline 5 and the yoke is cut. on both sides to form in- .45". The yoke on either side has a length 8' measured between the vertex of the V and the upper edge 5 which is approximately. half the The yoke I in additionto forming approxi mately the upper half of the garment above the crotch 3 and having the inverted V shapes on the side, is also cut on the bias so as to yield vertically and horizontally while the depending part 2 is not cut on the bias. The bias cut of the yoke and the non-bias cut of the depending part 2 of the garment together with the particular cut and form of the yoke being cut deep in the front and back and being provided with i the V cuts on the side, render the garment formfitting and at the same time provides the flare desired for freedom of. movement. The under-'- skirt or petticoat, effect is obtained along with the protection afforded by panties. ,This single garment therefore can be used in the place of the conventional petticoat and panties. Due to the particular structural design of the yoke and the fact that it gives or yields both crosswise and up and down it yieldingly adjusts itself to form fit the waist and hips of the wearer and at the same time there is, due to the correlated design of the depending part 2, complete freedom of body movement along withperfect comfort. for both sitting and standing. The bottom or leg parts 4 of the garment are made very full to facilitate the freedom of movement. There is no gathering anywhere in the garment. The cuts are allalong straight lines 5, 6, 6', 1,1, 8, 8', 9, l0 and I2 thereby facilitating the making of the garment with marked economy inexpense and the form fitting being provided notwithstanding the simple design. The proportions of the. garment are such that the garment crotch-3 is substantially below the crotch of the wearer but by reason of the particular cut and design there is no discomfort to the wearer. The seam lines I2 diverge upwardly from the upper ends of the seamsf9 and terminate at the middle and eliminates the necessity of gathers. in the a depending part and moreover allows a wider gathering or shirof the body, sitting,
and fuller dependent and leg part, giving adequate room' for sitting down with no gathering, as indicated, in the dependent part butywith the fullness desired. Moreover, the deep cut ofthe yoke which, as pointed out above, is cut on the bias, results in a proportionate increase in the give or yield and freedom of movement whereas I a substantially smaller depth would result in a.
disproportionate less freedom of movement.
Moreover, a smaller relative depth of yoke would result in the tendency to ride up whereas in the particular design shown and described above it stays in place and allows great freedom of materials as for example, silks, nylons, rayons, T
silk jersey, cottons',--linensand the like andI have obtained particularly goods results with the use-of thesame material for the'yoke .part I and the dependingpart 2 with the yoke part I cut on the bias and the depending part 2 not cut on thefbias- I A t {Em I i 1-. An undergarment for women comprising an upper yoke part cutdeep in the back and front having inverted V cuts on'the sides and a depending skirt part divided at the bottom into separate portions for-the legs, the yoke part bein g cut on the bias and the depending part beingcut ful'l-to give a petticoat effect, the upper edge of :said yoke being adapted to. be fastened about' the waistline f "the wearer and the yoke being'ofnsufficient depth in the vrear substantially to cover the hips. A 1
2: .An undergarment for women comprising an upper yoke lpart :of substantial depth extending allithe way around the hips and of sufiicient depth in'the rear substantially to cover the hips, said yoke havinginverted V cuts on the sides with the vertices of the Vs extending upwardly approximately half the depth of the yoke, anda skirt part depending fromthe yokeand divided at the bottom into separate portions for the legs and being cut full to give a petticoat effect, the upper edge "of the yoke being adapted to be fastened about the waistline of the wearer and the garment crotch being disposed below the lower edges of the front and back of the yoke a distance approximately the depth of 'theyoke.
3. A womens petticoat comprising at the top a yoke which is out on the bias and a skirtpart depending from theyoke which is divided at the bottom to form separate por-tions'for the legs, said yoke havings-iffficient depth in the rear substantially to cover the hips and the crotch of the 'leg portions being-approximately halfway the length of the depending skirt.
4. Awomens-petticoatcomprising at the top a yoke which is cuton the bias and a skirt part depending from the yoke'which is divided-at the bottom to form separate portions for the legs, said yoke havi-ngafde'pth in the rear and front sufficient to cover the hips and having 'deep inverted of the skirt part below the yoke and the skirt part being cut full to give a petticoat effect.
