' 1 Claim. (cm-224) The present invention relates to new and useful improvements in men's undergarments and more particularly to that type of undergarment known in the trade as shorts.

An important object of the present invention is to provide a front gore section in the garment formed of a double ply of material and including an inner ply having sufficient fullness to form a pouch and an opening therein to provide means of egress for the private parts of the body from the garment, the gore further including an outer ply of material having reinforcing tape arranged to give firm support to the material of the gore, one of the tapes providing a pocket opening to afford access to the opening of the inner ply of the gore.

A further important object of the invention is to provide a garment of this character of simple and practical construction, which is neat and attractive'in appearance, which is comfortable to the wearer and otherwise well adapted for the purposes for which the same is intended.

Other objects and advantages reside in the details of construction and operation as more fully hereinafter described and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawings forming part hereof, wherein like numerals refer to like parts throughout, and in which:

Figure l is a front elevational view.

Figure 2 is a rear elevational view with parts broken away to show the inside of the gore of the garment.

Figure 3 is a fragmentary plan view of inside of the gore.

Figure 4 is a fragmentary horizontal sectional view taken substantially on a line 4-4 of Figure 1.

Figure 5 is a detail of the lower portion of the outer ply of the gore.

Figure 6 is aplan view of one of the blanks forming one side of the inner ply of the gore, and

Figure 7 is an enlarged vertical sectional view taken substantially on a line l! of Figure 1.

Referring now to the drawings in detail, the numeral 5 designates the garment generally which includes a waistband 6, a back 1 and a pair of

front sections

8 and 9 connected at their upper side edges and at the crotch to the back and curved below their point of attachment to form leg openings ID. The front sections form a gore and are connected to each other at their upper portion at the center of the garment and have their lower portions below their connected edges curved oppositely toward the respective sides of the garment and spaced apart to form the A horizontal inelastic reinforcing tape 13 is stitched to the outer surface of the

8 and 9 and extends from one outer side edge thereof to the other at a point immediately above the opening I l and to the central portion of which is attached the upper pointed end of an outer ply of gore material or segment Id. The segment 14 has its upper side edges inclined and converging toward the center and provided at said inclined edges with inelastic tapes l5 and I6. One of the tapes is secured to the outer surface of the underlying front section and the side edges and bottom edge of the segment l4. are stitched to the side edges and crotch portion, respectively, of the gore. The other inclined tape is free to provide an opening at one side of the opening II to afford egress for the private parts outwardly of the outer ply or segment Id.

The outer ply M of the gore serves to provide a firm unyielding support at the front of the garment while the inner ply formed of the

8 and 9 of the gore by reason of its fullness at the lower portion thereof comfortably accommodates the private parts of a person and thus adequately and comfortably supports the same.

It is believed that the details of construction and manner of use of the device will be readily understood from the foregoing without further detailed explanation.

Having described the invention, what is claimed as new is:

An undergarment of the class described ineluding a gore structure at the'front of the garment and formed of double plies of material, one ply being inwardly of the other, a horizontal inelastic tape connecting the upper edge of the outer ply of material to the inner ply of material substantially at the center of the latter, said inner ply being formed of a pair of vertical sections connected to eachother along their adjacent vertical edges at a point above the tape, said adjacent edges immediately below the tape being free and curved toward the adjacent side edges to form an opening, and said adjacent edges below the opening being curved laterally toward each other and connected to each other with a fullness to provide a pouch, said outer ply inner ply to cover the opening and pouch, the remaining inclined tape being'tree to provide an opening in the outer ply adjacent one side of the opening in the inner ply,- said openings atfording egress for the private parts of a person wearing the garment.
