Abstract
621,067. Regulating switches. ENGLISH ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., and BENNETT, J. H. Sept. 13, 1946, No. 27520. [Class 38(v)] A regulating switch has a contact assembly composed of a laminar stack of alternate contact elements 3 with integral tags 7, and insulating members 4, clamped together and supported on insulated rods 1, 11 between two end plates 9. A rectilinearly-moving slider 16 is mounted on a rod 14 and carries a slotted insulating block 17 which is guided by a square rod 26. In the block 17 a spring-loaded, self-aligning transverse rod with rollers 18, 19 is mounted and forms a conducting bridge between the contact elements 3 and a continuous conductor 21 or a further, similar contact assembly the contacts of which may be aligned or staggered with respect to those of the first assembly. The slider may be moved by turning the rod 14 which in this case is threaded, Fig 3 (Prov.) (not shown), or by means of an endless chain having a peg which engages in the slider. In a modification, Fig. 1 (Comp.) a doubleended laminar stack of contact elements 31 and insulating members 40 is supported on insulated rods 29. Two spring loaded-conducting balls 44 mounted in pivoted spring- controlled cradles 45 on a slider 47, 49, form the bridging pieces between the contact elements 31 and tubular bus bars 41 supported on insulated rods 42.
