Abstract
579,608. Heavy-current switches. BROOKHIRST SWITCHGEAR, Ltd., and GOLOTHAN, J. T. June 3, 1944, No. 10716. [Class 38 (v)] In an isolator or contactor switch, the fixed socket contact comprises two insulated copper bars 32, 33 arranged socket-wise, and the movable bridging plug contact 13 consists of U-shaped laminations 16 controlled by a spring 27 for limited pivotal movement on a shaft 23 in a casing 20 clamped to the rocking shaft 12. Longitudinal movement of the laminations is prevented by washers 24 and spring clips 25. Neighbouring laminations are of a slightly different shape so as to form several points of contact 31, the legs 17, 18 in each case being widened behind the contact surfaces. The laminations and socket are chamfered in order to guide the plug into the socket and electrodynamic effects produce a tight fit of the plug in the socket. Each circuit may have one or more bridging contacts 13, as required.
