Abstract

764,075. Liquid-blast switches; switch contacts. ALLIS-CHALMERS MANUFACTURING CO. Sept. 16, 1954 [Nov. 3, 1953], No. 26899/54. Class 38(5) A stationary contact member for use in a liquid - blast switch comprises a plurality of segments 11a...11d grooved to form slots 17, 18 which provide contact surfaces for engaging movable contacts, the slot 17 extending from one end into the member transversely of its longitudinal axis and the slot 18 extending into the member substantially longitudinally of the longitudinal axis. The stationary contact is tubular and may have four segments (as shown) biased by springs 15 which provide loose pivotal mountings for the segments. The slot 17 is of rectangular cross-section and is engaged by the contact tip of a sickle-shaped pivoted contact member (not shown) which is so disposed that the contact tip wipes across the segments and separates from the segments 11a, 11b last. Thus the segments 11c, 11d are current carrying members and the segments 11a, 11b are arcing and current carrying members and may be of refractory material. The slot 18 is cylindrical and is engaged by a rod contact (not shown). The switch described in the Complete Specification is that of Specification 764,073 and has the upper barrier plate assembly described in Specification 764,074.
