Abstract

620,769. Coiling slivers ; stop-motions. NICOLL, J. L. July 8, 1946, No. 20298. Convention date, July 9, 1945. [Classes 120 (ii) and 120 (iii)] Textile sliver is filled and compacted into a can or container by passing it from the delivery rollers of a carding preparing or like machine to the mouth of the can, through a stationary guiding and filling device bridging the gap between the delivery side of the rollers and the mouth of the can, including the re-entrant space between the rollers on their delivery side. The delivery rollers 1, 2 are arranged to give a downward throw to the sliver, and a bell-mouth 5, supported on a bracket 6, encloses the space between the rollers and the top of the can 3 including the re-entrant between the rollers 1 and 2. The sliver can may be supported on a platform 11, pivoted at 9, and counterbalanced by a weight 10a on a bellcrank 10 on the same pivot. The lower edge of the bell-mouth may be provided with steps, so, that progressive filling of the can causes the can to be forced down, until it finally falls out of the machine, for which purpose it may be weighted as at 18. This action may be used to operate a stop-motion. A lever may be provided whereby the can may be urged upward against the bell-mouth to force the sliver in the latter into the can prior to its removal from the machine.
