Abstract
620,644. Refining zinc. NEW JERSEY ZINC CO. Jan. 25, 1947, No. 2389. Convention date, June 22, 1946. [Class 82(i)] In a method of condensing zinc vapour the gaseous stream containing zinc vapour is passed through a condensing chamber having a pool of molten zinc in communication with an exterior chamber containing molten zinc the temperature of which is subjected to direct artificial cooling while the pool of zinc in the condensing chamber is agitated. As shown, zinc vapour is led into a splash condensing chamber 5, as described in Specification 601,246, in which is mounted a splash producing device 15, the pool of zinc in the chamber 5 being in communication with a pool of zinc in an external chamber 12. The temperature of the molten metal in both pools is eontrolled by a bayonet type water-cooler 22 which may be raised or lowered by hand or automatically by a device 26 controlled by a pyrometer 27 mounted in the external pool or in the pool of metal in the chamber 5. Molten metal may be discharged from the external pool by dipping or overflow. Specification 601,247 also is referred to.
