Abstract

620,618. Two-part couplings. K.L.G. SPARKING PLUGS, Ltd., CARINGTON, C. M., and SHOOBERT, G. W. Jan. 23, 1947, No. 2143. [Class 38 (i)] The body or gland-nut 11 of a sparking-plug has a sleeve extension 12 surrounding the electrode 13 and adapted to receive the skirt 18 of a moulded insulating cap 17, to form a water-proof closure for the sleeve. A shoulder 21 on the cap is held against the sleeve-end 22 by a split spring ring 16 which engages over an enlargement 19 making a tight fit within the sleeve 12. The lead is screwed on to a connector 25 which is moulded into the closed end of a socket 23 and opens to the inside of the cap for connection to the electrode. The Provisional Specification also describes an arrangement whereby the cap is locked in place by two substantially L-shaped catches, one end of each of which engages under an external shoulder on the sleeve and the other end engages grooves in the top of the cap.
