Abstract

[Class 48] [Also in Groups XXIII and XXXIV] Cylindrical glass rings for anglers' line guides are made by cutting sections from a toughened glass tube, grinding their faces with abrasive, and then rounding their edges by fusion. In one method, a length of the tube is held in a rotary chuck for cutting by diamond impregnated discs; after degreasing and grinding, the sections are caused to gyrate on a flat, smooth base (e.g. graphite or carbon) by pin-pointing on their axes a high-pressure oxy-coal gas flame. As shown, the edges 7 of a metal mount 6 are pressed or spun over a ring 2 formed as above, the mount then being spot-welded, brazed or soldered to a bracket 8.
