[Class 35] [Also in Group XXXVII] An electromagnet for a relay, valve or other purpose comprises a U-shaped yoke 21 with an energizing coil 22 also a U-shaped armature 20 with the ends of its limbs overlapping those of the yoke and angularly movable about an axis parallel to and between the limbs of the yoke so that the ends of the armature abut sideways against the ends 23, 24, of the core in the attracted position. Figs. 1 and 2 (not shown), illustrate a known arrangement with a straight bar armature.
