Abstract
619,555. Condensation pumps. DISTILLATION PRODUCTS, Inc. Nov. 5, 1946, No; 32792. Convention date, Dec. 15, 1945. [Class 71] In a condensation pump consisting of one or more cylindrical members 14, 16 and 18 mounted in a casing 4 having a flange 8 adapted to be connected to the system to be evacuated, the cylindrical members are each provided with an edge, such as 22, turned outwardly through at least 90 degrees, on which the adjacent cylindrical member is seated and located. The uppermost cylindrical member supports a cap 26 having a projection 30 attached to a spider 32 which serves to position the chimney assembly centrally. The pump actuating vapour, supplied by heating the pump fluid 40, passes upwardly through holes 42, 44 and 46 in the members 14, 16 and 18 respectively to be discharged downwardly as high velocity streams through jet nozzles 34, 36 and 38 thereby sucking in gases from the system to be evacuated which are finally expelled through a conduit 10 from which they are removed by a pump, not shown. The total cross-sectional area of the holes 42, 44 and 46 is at least equal to the area of the throats 34, 36 and 38 respectively.
