618,071. Escapement mechanism. LANDIS & GYR SOC. ANON. Aug. 6, 1946, No. 23321. Convention date, Aug. 22, 1945. [Class 80 (iv)] [Also in Group XIX] An escapement mechanism for obtaining single revolutions of a shaft on successive impulses and particularly applicable to counting and recording apparatus comprises an arm 4 secured to the controlled shaft 1 and carrying a pinion 5 adapted to roll around a fixed gear 6 coaxial with the shaft 1. The pinion 5 has secured to it an arm 7 co-operating with a release member in the form of a toothed pinion 8 subjected to the controlling impulses provided, for example, by a control clock. Each step of the pinion 8 releases the arm 7 and allows a complete revolution of shaft 1 by a driving motor 3 before the arm 7 engages the next tooth of the pinion, the gear ratio of gears 5 and 6 being a whole number to allow this. In a modification, a double-armed member is provided on the pinion 5 with a projection on each end adapted to be engaged by one of two abutments on a pivoted electromagnetic armature controlled by electrical impulses. In this case the gear ratio of gears 5 and 6 must give a whole number when multiplied by two. Specification 613,236 is referred to.
