Class 80 (4) [Also in Group XXXVIII] Aperiodic impulses derived from a servomotor (not shown) responsive to trains of impulses derived from, e.g. plural wattmeters are applied to successively step a spur wheel 1 driving a sun wheel 2a of a differential gear 2 and on arrival of each impulse the planet wheel 2b drives through shaft 2c a disc 3 bearing pins 6, 6a, and a pinion 4 engaging a rack 14a traversing a sliding member 14, which moves a shaft 15a, carrying a friction wheel 15 axially of a rotary, turntable 13. At the same time pin 6 or 6a pivots lever 5 about its oscillatory supporting lever 35 to disengage hook 5a from pin 7a and release brake arm 7 from the constant speed disc 8, geared to rotate turntable 13. The latter rotates and drives friction wheel 15 at a speed proportional to the total number of arrived impulses stored in the differential so as to rotate through intermediate gearing a wheel 25 carrying a pin 26 interengageable with a projection 27a of an out-of-balance wheel 27. Simultaneously the wheel 25 rotates cam 34 to vertically oscillate lever 5 and its supporting lever 35 and also drives the second sun wheel 2d of the differential' 2 to restore the planet wheel towards its original position, from which it was deviated by the arriving impulses. The out-of-balance wheel is turned by wheel 25 and pin 26 until it reaches its unstable position and then completes a revolution under gravity to operate contacts 28 through cam 29 to emit one outgoing impulse, and simultaneously the oscillation of lever 5 enables hook 5a to re-engage pin 7a and brake the disc 8, since pin 6 or 6a has now disengaged the lever 5. Each successive aperiodic input impulse initiates a similar cycle, so that the contacts 28 re-transmit an output train of impulses numerically proportional to the input impulses at a rate proportional to the mean input rate, which may operate, e.g. a remote wattmeter.
