Abstract

617,693. Packing-machines. ASHTON BROS. & CO., Ltd., and BAYES, A. W. Oct. 17, 1946, No. 30907. [Class 94 (i)] [Also in Group XXX] In an apparatus for packing batches of bobbins into boxes the bobbins 32 are placed in a hopper 10, having a floor formed of reciprocating bars 11 the upper surfaces of which are serrated so that the bobbins are urged forward through a slot 10b in the front end wall of the hopper and fall on an inclined vibrating troughed or apertured chute 31 into which the bobbins are guided by staggered deflectors. On leaving the chute the bobbins are carried forward by their heads on belts 37 of circular crosssection and are discharged into loading chutes 44 where they are held ready for loading into boxes. Each box is pushed forward along a table 73 abutting against a cross-bar 54 to cause a detent mechanism to separate off a given number of bobbins in the chutes. Further motion of the box brings it against a cross-bar 58 which operates a mechanism to release the separated groups of bobbins into the receptacle. Removal of the container allows the loading chutes to refill. A modification describes the chute 31 as being' replaced by an extension of the travel of the belts 37 which may be driven at varying speeds to facilitate the turning of the bobbins. The detent mechanism instead of passing between the bobbins may engage in a hole formed in the bobbin head.
