[Class 48] The reel has a click-pawl mechanism which is adjustable to give a strong or less-strong check action either when the reel is rotating in a clockwise direction or when it is rotating anti-clockwise. The reel, comprising front and back plates, 17, 18, and connecting pins 20, is freely rotatable on a fixed spindle 14, and may be reversed, by removing a nut 15, for either a right-handed or left-handed person. The spring-pressed triangular detent 29 is mounted on a pin 25 and may be turned by a knob 23 so that either one of the two sharp corners of the triangle may engage a toothed wheel 22, on the reel, or a rounded corner brought to face the wheel, which it does not engage so that, in this case, the spool runs free from check action. When a sharp corner engages the wheel 22 the other sharp corner will press into the bow-spring 34 to give a greater resistance to the reel than if the detent is positioned so that the rounded corner is pressed into the spring. A locating pin 26, which acts as a stop, is contained in a slot 30, in the detent. A second triangle 28 engages a bow-spring 35 to steady the mechanism. The pins 20 may be placed more distantly from the spindle 14.
