Abstract

621,076. Domestic skein holders. DIRS, G. W. Nov. 16, 1946, No. 34048. [Class 120 (ii)] A domestic skein holder, Fig. 1, comprises a base 10 in a boss 11 of which is rotatably mounted an axle 13 carrying a grooved rotor 14, Fig. 4, which slidably receives the inner ends of the skein-carrying arms 18, one pair of which is located in each of the diametral grooves 16, 17 and each arm having a slot which fits over an upstanding screw threaded rod formed by the extension 24 of the axle, a plate 25 and thumb nut 26 being provided to clamp the arms in position. The groove 17 is of slightly less depth than four thicknesses and the groove 16 of slightly less depth than two thicknesses of the strip metal arms which are of equal thickness. The rotor may be of metal die-cast upon the axle or of plastic material moulded thereon, the axle being knurled at 15 to facilitate attachment. The base may be of metal or moulded plastic material, and a locking device may be provided in the thumb nut to prevent it being entirely unscrewed from the axle. For folding purposes all the arms may be accommodated in one groove.
