Abstract

1 - Amino - 8 - naphthol - 3 : 6 - disulphon - amides, which carry one or two alkyl groups containing a total of 2, 3 or 4 carbon atoms on the nitrogen atom of each sulphonamide group, are obtained by reacting 1-acetylamino-8-naphthol-3 : 6-disulphochloride with the appropriate primary or secondary base, e.g. dimethylamine, diethylamine, ethylamine or isopropylamine, and then heating the product with dilute caustic soda solution to remove the acetyl group. Specifications 326,226, [Class 2 (iii)], and 347,288 are referred to.ALSO:Azo dyestuffs are manufactured by coupling in alkaline medium diazotized 4-nitro-2-aminophenol-6-sulphonic acid with a 1-amino-8-naphthol-3 : 6-disulphonamide which carries one or two alkyl groups containing a total of 2, 3 or 4 carbon atoms on the nitrogen atom of each sulphonamide group. The products dye wool in bluish-green shades by the after-chrome or metachrome process. Examples describe the use, as coupling components, of 1-amino-8-naphthol-3 : 6-di-(sulphondimethylamide), -di-(sulphondiethylamide), -di-(sulphonethylamide) and -di-(sulphonisopropylamide). Specifications 326,226, [Class 2 (iii)], and 347,288 are referred to.
