Abstract

615,524. Lamp-holders. KAVANAGH, L. R., FENN, J. J., and BENJAMIN ELECTRIC, Ltd. June 13, 1945, No. 14986. [Class 38 (i)] In a holder 3 for a double-ended lamp 1, a pin receiving member 19 is spring mounted, the springs 20 forming the current conductors to the lamp pins 4. The holder 3 normally co-operates with a rigid holder 2 in which contacts 9 are held in grooves 6 by terminals 13 and have tongues 11 in recesses 6a to engage the lamp pins 4, and the lamp end is held in a recess 5 which has pin-grooves 15 to facilitate the insertion of the lamp. The holder 3 comprises a two-part body 16, 17 forming a chamber 18 in which the pin-receiving member 19 is carried, the springs 20 being U shaped and having backing-springs 23. To permit full play of the springs 20, the part 17 is grooved at 27, and the lamp end is also shielded in a recess 5. In a modification, the contacts 20 are replaced by' coil springs which move in telescoped guides, acting as stops for the member 19. Another embodiment includes a rigid base with resilient projecting contacts for the pins. Alternatively, the terminals 13 are replaced by plug - and - socket connections. According to the Provisional Specification, helically wound springs may be used, the inner coils receiving the lamp pins.
