615,432. Photographic roll-film spools and winding apparatus therefor. GEVAERT PHOTO-PRODUCTEN N.V. Oct. 10, 1945, No. 26501. Convention date, Dec. 24, 1943. [Class 98 (i)] In order to facilitate insertion of the film end or leader strip into the usual tapered slit in the core of the spool in the known winding apparatus, an eccentric lug or recess is formed on or in the end of the spool adapted to be engaged by an eccentric lug or pin on the end of the winding shaft, whereby spool and shaft may be locked together in a definite angular setting, and provision is made for arresting the shaft in a set position in which, when spool and shaft are so locked together, the longer entrance of the tapered slit in the spool core is presented in a convenient position to receive the film end or leader strip. Fig. 3 shows a spool 1 with tapered slit 10, and an eccentric lug 8 on one flange adapted to engage an eccentric lug 9 on the end of the winding shaft 4. In alternatives, an eccentric pin projecting from the end of the winding shaft is adapted to engage a recess in the spool flange or in the end of the spool core. The means for arresting the winding shaft in set position may be of the known click or pawl type.
