Abstract

615,180. Spring forks. MACBETH, C., and ASTON, H. Aug. 1, 1946, No. 22940. [Class 136 (iii)] [Also in Group XXXII] A cycle front wheel fork-end fitting of the kind having a pair of coaxial and relatively rotatable parts a and f interconnected by a torsionally flexible annulus j and connected respectively to the front fork and wheel spindle and provided with stops for limiting movement, has a box-like structure in two parts adapted for attachment to the fork, a stem extending between and secured to one or both parts, a relatively rotatable part arranged coaxially within the box-like structure and adapted for attachment to the wheel spindle, a rubber or like bush between the rotatable part and the stem, a rubber or like torsionally flexible annulus bonded to one of the parts of the boxlike structure, and an intermediate part interconnecting the annulus and rotatable part. In the form shown in Figs. 1 and 2, the box-like structure a is in two parts, a main part a<SP>1</SP> and an outer cover a<SP>2</SP> and has a tubular socket b for attachment to the lower end of the front fork. A stem n is secured to one or both parts a<SP>1</SP>, a<SP>2</SP> and a coaxial part f carried by the boss k<SP>1</SP> of an inner, angularly movable member k has a part g extending through the part a and is connected to the front wheel spindle. Between the boss k<SP>1</SP> and the stem n is a rubber bush j<SP>1</SP>, integral with which is a rubber annulus j which is bonded to the parts a<SP>1</SP>, k and n. The arm g has a shoulder g<SP>3</SP> for engaging adjacent ends of notches k<SP>3</SP> in the truncated conical flange k<SP>2</SP> of the member k and stops e are provided on the part a<SP>1</SP> to limit the movement of the arm g. When a brake is combined with the wheel hub, the plate carrying the brake mechanism is formed with a radial notch in its periphery which is engaged by a peg t extending from the arm g. In a modification, the inner member k is annular and of truncated conical form, and the rubber annulus j is bonded between this member and the cover part a<SP>2</SP>. The member f is supported on the stem n by a rubber or like bush which may consist of two parts arranged end to end.
