Abstract

615,076. Pneumatic tyres. DUNLOP RUBBER CO., Ltd., FLETCHER, H. R., and MULLINS, W. J. Aug. 23, 1946, No. 25167. [Class 144 (ii)] A pneumatic tyre, stated to be particularly for use on aircraft landing wheels, comprises a main air-chamber 2 enclosing an emergency chamber 3 connected at the rim-seating periphery by a resilient mass formed with bead-spacing portions 6, 7 and a thick tread portion 8 which is adapted to support the load on collapse of the chamber 2. The tread portion 8 may be reinforced by inextensible cords 11; and the inner chamber 3 may be constituted by an outer sleeve 17 of bias textile fabric with a rubber lining 18. The outer chamber 2 is inflated by means of an independent valve 13 through a passage 16 in a thickened portion of the wall 7. Suitable inflation-pressures are stated as 30 to 100 pounds for the main chamber and 100 to 200 pounds for the emergency chamber.
