Abstract

614,897. Wire terminals. DURRANT, H. C., and PYE, Ltd. Aug. 12, 1946, No. 23908. [Class 38 (i)] An electric terminal connector, comprising a wire gripper formed from a single piece of spring metal, which is bent to form a V-shaped portion 1, 1, which is cut part-way along the line of the apex of the V to form a slit 2, so as to produce a pair of spring tongues 4, 4 which constitute the plates of the wire gripper so that when a wire is inserted in between the tongues 4, 4 it cannot be withdrawn except by drawing the wire along the slit towards its open end. A lead-in portion 5, 5 for the wire is provided and the gripper is secured in a metal or insulating housing. A pusher member 15 may also be provided which is formed with projecting pushers 16, 17 which lie respectively at opposite sides of the apex of the wire gripper. The projecting lengths of the pushers 16 and 17 are such that when a wire is laid on the gripper lead-in portion 5, 5, the act of closing the lid 15 will cause the pushers to engage the wire at opposite sides of the apex of the gripper and force the wire into and along the slot apex of the gripper. In a modification, the grippers may comprise a pair of hinged members controlled by separate springs.
