Abstract

1,215,390. Terminals; terminal blocks; twopart couplings. AMP Inc. 13 Nov., 1968 [11 Dec., 1967], No. 53831/68. Heading H2E. An electrical connector assembly consists of an electrical contact element 3 retained within a cavity 5 of an insulating block 1 provided with a laterally movable cover-plate 2 having a projection 22 which restrains the contact element from moving towards a cavity opening 6 when the plate is moved a suitable distance away from the cavity opening. The cover-plate is latched to the block by resilient arms 20 held in recesses 17 in the block. A contact element 3 is U-shaped having a web 13 with a pair of arms 11, 12 within which the projection on the plate extends. A wire or pin may be inserted through an opening 6, through an aperture 14 in the web of a contact element 3 and between the curved portions of the arms 11, 12. On attempting to withdraw the pin, the contact element moves toward opening 6 when the arms 11, 12 are engaged by projections 9 causing the pin to be gripped more firmly. To remove the pin, the cover-plate is moved away from the pin and held, while the pin is pulled out.
