Abstract

614,587. Electric heating resistances. SAFEWAY HEAT ELEMENTS, Inc,. July 15, 1946. No. 21163. Convention date, Feb. 25. [Class 39 (iii)] [Also in Group XXXVI] A method of treating heating elements of the type in which a resistance wire is associated with braided glass fibres comprises the removal of substantially all organic or other foreign matter from the said fibres, coating the fibres with silicone resin or silicone elastomer and allowing the coating to set. The coating may be applied in two stages, first as a dilute solution and then as a concentrated solution, each of which may be baked. The heating element may comprise a resistance wire 10 enclosed by a braided or served glass sheath 11 and may be further woven with glass or other yarns. The heating element, treated as above, may be encased in neoprene or vulcanized between rubber or resin sheets in which form it can be used for de-icing aircraft.
