Abstract

614,200. Glass manufacture. DRAMMENS GLASSVERK. July 5, 1946, No. 20209. Convention date, April 3, 1943. [Class 56] [Also in Groups II and XII] Raw materials are charged to a melting furnace through a refractory pipe which is so disposed that the charge material is partly sintered and leaves the pipe as a consistent mass. As applied to a glass furnace, the charge is fed through a refractory pipe 2, an easilyfusible material, such as glass powder, being supplied from an annular hopper 3 to prevent the charge adhering to the wall of the pipe. When an initial charge is supplied to the furnace it is held in the pipe by a plate 7 until the material has sintered sufficiently, when the plate is allowed to drop into the bath and is recovered at a later stage.
